Definitions:
Proportions: a statement saying that two ratios are equal.
Example:
Similar triangles: are the same shape but not necessarily the same size. If the two triangles are congruent they are similar
Example:
These two triangles are similar in shape but not size making them similar triangles.

Before we answer the question above, "how tall is the building" you notice there is a man who stands 7ft. Also, this man is standing 90
° to the building and we know this because of the small square shaded next to the building and the man.
Example:
Knowing the type of triangle is very important in solving this and any other geometry problem!
Now that we know the man and building are both positioned at a right angle we can agree there are similar triangles in this problem!
Similar triangles are easy to solve because we can use portions to find our missing piece!
Use your imagination and draw two triangles, one from the edge of the building to the end of the area and the other from the top of the man to the end of the area.
